What Would Helen Do (WWHD)?

Mood Rings
Want a way for your student to "notice" and begin to advocate for themselves in a fun way?  Try a Mood Ring.  They come in all sorts of sizes and varieties.

When we get anxious, stressed, upset, etc. we begin to lose the blood flow to our extremities, like our fingers.  It's the neurophysiological response and creates a "fight or flight" response to experiences in the world.

A Mood Ring will show when we begin to lose the blood flow to our fingers because the color will change to a "darker color".

Will it work?!  It does for many and it's fun.

There is also mood gel fingernail polish.
Before you Attend a Meeting
Parents may, and should, ask for draft copies of any reports or documents to be discussed at a meeting,  prior  to the meeting.  These reports and/or documents can include, but are not limited to:  Student evaluations, the Individualized Education Program (IEP) document, and Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA).  You can also ask for any data that has been collected and will be discussed as part of the report.

Send your request in writing, ask that it be sent as an email attachment, and give a specific date of when you would like the report.
Signature at Meetings
My suggestion to parents is to always sign the words, "attendance only" and then sign your name for any meeting you attend.  Often you will hear your signature is only for attendance however I have seen it used as agreement.
